At our practice, we utilize an intraoral scanner, which means physical "goop" impressions are a thing of the past! They work by projecting a light source into the patient's mouth, capturing thousands of images with sensors, and processing them with software to create a 3D model. The data can then be sent to dental labs to create restorations, dentures, nightguards, sleep appliances, and more. The intraoral scanner does not use radiation to capture the images. Digital impressions are also more accurate than physical impressions and are also much more comfortable for the patient!
